Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

Mainly due to the location of Lancaster. The surrounding countryside coupled with the excellent teaching seemed the obvious choice.

What was the best thing about your course?

The malleability of the course. I had the option to do modules in entrepreneurship, management, sustainability and finance. That allowed me to build a foundational level understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape.

What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?

The Entrepreneurs in Residence were role models for us as students. Admiring their achievements in building successful businesses and their willingness to support students has proved invaluable throughout my time at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS).

Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

I undertook a dissertation project which involves compiling research on the effect that childhood friendships have on entrepreneurial traits and intentions. Through multiple interviews with various entrepreneurs, I was able to build a well-balanced report with interesting insights as to how early socialisation can develop entrepreneurial tendencies.

What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster?

Spending time in the local countryside. Despite living in England, the stark difference between the flat and pretty landscape of Kent, compared with the striking ruggedness of Lancashire will be something I will remember for the rest of my life.

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

As well as the countryside, the local community feel. Working in a local pub (The Borough) has really highlighted how close everyone is.

What impact did scholarships or funding have on your degree experience?

I received a one-off scholarship from Santander, and it allows an incredible amount of breathing space. It takes the stress out of managing tight student budgets.

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

I think the general experience has been most beneficial. Balancing different deadlines, expectations and projects all at once will make future work scenarios seem less daunting.

What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?

My Lancaster experience has given me the confidence and knowledge to begin my career. LUMS has helped build my aspirations through business, finance, entrepreneurship, and industry connections.
