Placement: 2.0 Concepts

I started my role at 2point0 Concepts by providing administrative help to the team to allow me to get to know and understand the business. As 2point0 Concepts is a start-up organisation it was important that I was able to quickly understand the business and I was able to adapt to whatever the business needs were. Once I got to know the products and the clients I was able to expose myself to various sides of the business, including accounting; communications; marketing (both research and digital) and business development.

Before I started my placement I was unsure on how the skills developed on placement would differ between an SME and a larger organisation, however, I found that through getting to know the project to project based environment that 2point0 Concepts works in I was able to develop very specific skills that really suited the needs of the business. Over the year I started to be given more responsibilities and I found that I gained the most value on my placement once I started putting myself outside of my comfort zone– tasks that required logic, time management and adaptability really challenged me and allowed me to grow.

I particularly enjoyed working closely with the front end of the business, syncing weekly business activity with the CEOs. I worked very closely with the business development team and I especially enjoyed sales, working with clients and developing new business connections. I also had the opportunity to conduct research projects, write marketing materials and liaise with the design and software development departments on new launches. In general my placement at 2point0 Concepts taught me a lot about the real business world and as we were just fifteen people I enjoyed the opportunity to see how we turned into an SME from a start-up. The flexibility and realisation that I was part of this growth was something that I really enjoyed.

I have been offered full time employment at 2point0 Concepts in London once I graduate university. My written and verbal communication skills have improved dramatically throughout the year and I have gained experience into the process of mobile app/ website development from business point of view. 2point0 Concepts was a great insight into the emerging technology and a pure example of how innovation is happening within small business. Overall during my placement year I gained a sharp business mind, discipline and self management and an exclusive ability to embrace responsibility that I believe will be of value whether or not I decide to pursue a start-up on my own or work for a larger organisation.
