Milo Mannion

Country of origin: United Kingdom

Placement: The Walt Disney Company

As part of his degree Milo spent a year working for The Walt Disney Company.

Firstly, I managed the retail distribution of Club Penguin membership cards in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This involved working with partners to design, produce and distribute the cards throughout the region. I did the sales analysis of our card sales in the UK and Europe, and worked with the Commercial Director to establish how better we can run this area of the business.

The other part of my job role was to be the link between Disney Interactive (the games department) and Disney Media+. It was my job to ensure the ad sales teams in Media+ had all the information they needed to sell advertising on our mobile and social gaming platforms and on our own websites. When they sold an advertising campaign, I co-ordinated the campaign and did analytical work around how many ads we had to sell and how well we were selling them across platforms.

The main highlight was the level of responsibility that I was entrusted with. The retail cards business in the UK and Europe is worth around $3m a year and due to my position working with the Commercial Director, I had a key role in decision-making.

The second role I did in my time at Disney was as a Marketing Assistant for Video Games UK. In this role I was responsible for helping to implement the marketing campaigns for all console games we release in the UK. This meant working with agencies to make and place TV, online and outdoor adverts for campaigns. I also worked with retail sales teams to assist them in selling our games into retailers. During this time I played a key role in running an £800,000 marketing campaign for Disney Epic Mickey 2.

I organised and attended events and one of my roles was to demonstrate games to both consumers and retailers. Other tasks included co-ordinating the needs of the local marketing teams based throughout Europe – helping to determine their needs and how we can help them as central management. The highlight of this role has to be going to Disneyland Paris as a games expert to train the French demo staff.
