Sian Ladley
Country of origin: United Kingdom
Placement: Pixelfountain
Sian's work placement was based at Pixelfountain, where she worked as a learning consultant.
Pixelfountain is a very small company and therefore I had to fill various roles and had many duties. Pixelfountain primarily designs, develops and delivers learning simulations. My role involved social media marketing, blogging (gaining an award), delivering and facilitating workshops, managing contracts, report writing, consultancy, creation of marketing collateral, design and development of websites – the list goes on.
One of the highlights of my placement was delivering and facilitating workshops. It was great to see people enjoying and really learning from products that Pixelfountain had developed.
Another highlight is the recognition for the work I have done on our company blog: http://www.games-based-learning.com/. I am now recognised as an expert in the serious games, game-based learning and gamification fields, and achieve around 6,000 hits on the blog a month. The blog also won a 'Best in Gamification' award and more specifically 'Best Gamification Resources in the Education Sector'.
I could go on, but I'll just say that my work for Pixelfountain has been very enjoyable and rewarding and I have secured some contracts of my own from the work I have done, which is always a bonus!
