The Economics Department are pleased to host a two-part event featuring two distinguished guest speakers

09:00–09:55am: “Meet the Editor” with Esther Ruiz (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid).

This is a tailored session especially designed for PhD students and early-career researchers eager to learn more on the peer-review process. Drawing on her extensive editorial experience, Esther will give insights into academic publishing and share her editorial perspectives.

09:55–10:50am: “Signal Extraction and Filtering Economic and Financial Time Series: A Frequency Domain Approach” with Tommaso Proietti (Tor Vergata University of Rome).

This session will delve into frequency-domain methods for extracting meaningful signals from time series processes with applications in Economics and Finance.

Esther Ruiz is a Professor of Econometrics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and a leading expert in time series analysis. She has served extensively as senior editor for the International Journal of Forecasting, bringing a wealth of experience in academic publishing and research quality. Her research contributions in time series and financial econometrics span stochastic volatility models, unobserved component models, bootstrap procedures for prediction intervals and dynamic factor models.

Tommaso Proietti is a Professor of Economic Statistics at Tor Vergata University of Rome, CREATES International Fellow at the University of Aarhus, Senior Fellow at The Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to state-space modelling, frequency domain techniques, climate econometrics, with a prolific record of publication in top-tier econometric and statistical journals.
