A day in the life of a Management and Human Resources student
Posted on

The start of the week
An average Monday would be the busiest day of the week, with one lecture and two workshops (an interactive seminar where you discuss relevant readings on lecture topics) to attend. As I live on campus, I can afford to wake up at 8 am for a 9 am lecture. Reaching any part of campus would take me no more than 15 minutes, giving me plenty of time to wake up, make some nice breakfast, and pack everything for the day.
With a two-hour gap between the first workshop and the lecture, I opt to spend my time on the last floor of the LUMS building instead of the library, as I find it generally less crowded (and with more comfortable chairs). Depending on how I manage my time during the weekend, I either do my reading for the upcoming lecture and workshop or work on my assignments. My noon lecture is immediately followed by a workshop, although the tutors make effort to end ten minutes beforehand, so I usually have enough time to travel between lecture theatres.
Ending my workshop at 2 pm, I go back to my campus accommodation to make lunch. Sometimes it’s a question of reheating my food rather than cooking from scratch (bulk-cooking will become your best friend if you want to save money). I’m one of those people who need a break after eating, so I decided to take a break after eating my lunch. I then tend to go back to the LUMS building to continue my studying for the day.
As a final-year student, apart from normal assignments, I also have to write my dissertation this year. It was a big jump going from an essay averaging 2,500 words to an academic piece of work with 12,000 words. So, unless I have reading to do for the next day, my afternoon tends to be dedicated to either module assignments (standard essays) or my dissertation, depending on the mood and upcoming deadlines.
How I end my day
I like to end my academic part of the day at 6 pm sharp, which gives me a sense of some ‘work-life’ balance. If I feel like it, I go for a swim in the Sports Centre, but if I feel too tired, I simply pack my stuff and go back to my room. I also like to reward myself with a cup of hot chocolate from Pendle Brew (try it with coconut milk, you’ll thank me later).
Before concluding the day, I see what the next day has in store for me (google calendar is a life-saver), eat dinner, and then go to bed!
