A day in the life of an MSc Management student

My morning routine

I aim to be an early bird. I usually wake up around 7 am and go through the to-do list I had prepared the previous night. It is then a squeeze of chores and daily activities.

Since I live in the city accommodation, I get my bus to the university after a hearty but quick breakfast (essential). On the ride, I gaze through concepts to be taught and prepare myself for long lectures with a cup of coffee.

But, yeah, grad student life happens at times! Some of my mornings would have a quick battle between goals and reality. On some days I do hit the snooze button a little too much. On those mornings, it is just a 'grab and rush to the lecture' routine.

Daily schedule

If there is a morning lecture, the first thing is to get to the lecture fueled up with breakfast and coffee, and then it is followed by any group discussions or workshops we have.

I also head to the library sometimes after lectures to look for any relevant articles or reading materials eventually spending the entire afternoon there as it is so convenient and calm.

Otherwise, I return home, have a nap (another essential) and then proceed with any coursework, assignments or papers I need to work on.

A day with afternoon lectures is a relaxed but productive day starting with coursework and preparations in the morning. Then I grab my lunch and quickly get the bus to the university. It is a quick library session after the lecture sometimes or I usually rush back home after this to get the window seat on the bus just to ride watching the sunset. (The campus looks amazing at sunset.)

Evenings

After an entire day of lectures and coursework, the evening would be a break from it.

I live off campus in the city with other students coming from places as same as my native. The evenings are never dull with all of us cooking our dinner together, going grocery shopping and dining out at times.

We also have neighbours who are from our university as well. We all spend the evening relaxed like movie nights, snack and talk sessions, baking, etc.

We sometimes spend time at the university Sports Centre as well. It has so many sports activities and fitness amenities that should be used. Fitness with friends is just fun, honestly.

Though we live off campus, we have friends who live on campus, who let us know about any social events or activities that are to take place on campus. We usually fancy an Indian movie night or karaoke night which is extremely enjoyable.

Ever had some evenings when you would want to have a short trip but not too far? That is when Morecambe and Heysham come to my rescue. Just having a walk by the bay, watching the sunset, going bowling, etc is something I like doing on such short evening trips from Lancaster.

Extracurricular activities

I am a Student Senator and my routines include helping to organise any student gatherings or events to be held for my course, moderating any speaker sessions, etc. It is cool since it is all about socialising and interactions.

I have also taken part in networking events where you get to meet many professionals and alumni who give you valuable input. I generally would not miss such events.

Where I like to spend time on the campus

I spend most of my time at the Management School as it has all I need inside (a café, a social space, etc).

I also like to spend my time at the library. Our group discussions and study sessions happen there as the study rooms are too comfortable and convenient to have. Trust me, they give you the atmosphere and mindset to study even if you don't want to.

And then, as a food lover, I go around tasting food on campus. I spend most of my time (and money) having the Biscoff Cheesecake from Cafe Republic in the South Spine. It is an absolute delight and, yeah, it is important to have a short and sweet break from academics.

As mentioned above, I also spend some time in the Sports Centre.

Lastly, I love watching ducks near Furness College. Such cuties they are!

You can watch a tour of the campus on YouTube.
