University life can feel busy, but at the same time, every week brings a mix of learning, new experiences, and personal growth. As an Indian international student studying Masters in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), my weeks are usually a balance of academics, career preparation and social engagement.

Monday

Mondays are all about resetting and getting back to routine. I spend time planning and organising my tasks, making a to-do list for the week. The morning is often filled with back-to-back lectures, helping me settle into the academic rhythm, while the afternoon is typically spent in a quiet study space reviewing the notes. I sometimes catch up briefly with my friends to discuss ideas or share tips for the week ahead. It can be challenging to feel motivated after the weekend, but once I get going, it helps set a productive tone for the rest of the week.

Tuesday

Tuesdays are typically dedicated to group work and academic preparation. I usually spend time in the library working with my group on presentations and assignments, discussing ideas, and coordinating our work. Alongside this, I also prepare for the upcoming workshops or seminars by reading the case studies in advance, which helps me engage actively and contribute effectively during the sessions. These tasks make Tuesdays productive and engaging, and they help me stay on top of my academic responsibilities.Suraj posing for a selfie

Wednesday

On Wednesdays, I usually have fewer lectures, so I shift my focus to career development. I make time to visit the LUMS Careers Zone to have one-to-one sessions, where I can get guidance on CVs, cover letters, and career planning. These sessions are especially valuable as an Indian international student, helping me understand opportunities and build confidence for the future. The rest of the day is usually spent applying to part-time jobs and internships related to my field. This balance between academic and career preparation helps me stay productive while planning for the future.

Thursday

Thursdays are often the most interactive days of the week. It includes group discussions, practical exercises, and activities that help bring concepts to life, like recently we had a real-life negotiation practice. Such sessions provide an opportunity to gain exposure to the practical world. Apart from this, I usually dedicate some time to personal tasks, like doing laundry or organising my things for the rest of the week. In short, Thursdays are busy but rewarding, combining hands-on learning, preparation, and small personal tasks, which helps me stay organised and engaged.

Friday

By Friday, I usually try to wrap up most of my academic tasks for the week, including completing assignments and reviewing concepts. Evenings are a chance to relax and socialise with friends, whether it’s playing sports like table tennis or foosball, or participating in campus activities that allow us to connect and meet with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. It’s also a time to reflect on the week, acknowledge what I have achieved, and prepare for the weekend ahead. Fridays help me maintain a balance between work and personal life, ending the week on a positive and energised note.

Saturday and Sunday

On weekends, I like to take some time to relax and focus on myself. I usually catch up on tasks, such as grocery shopping or cooking my favourite Indian dish, while also giving myself moments to unwind. This includes watching movies or series, spending time with friends, or exploring nearby towns like Preston or Morecambe for a change of scenery. While I usually give my mother daily updates over the phone, I connect with my family and friends in India on weekends through video calls. These days help me recharge, enjoy some personal time, and prepare mentally for the week ahead.

Overall, being an Indian international student comes with its fair share of challenges, but it’s also equally full of rewarding experiences. Each week is more than just lectures and assignments; it’s about gaining independence, developing practical skills, and making memories that matter. From collaborating on group projects and participating in workshops to exploring career opportunities and enjoying campus life, every week at LUMS helps me grow both academically and personally. Living and studying here has taught me to balance responsibilities with new experiences, and each day adds something valuable to my journey.
