A LUMS economist has spoken about Islamic Finance before an audience of government figures.

Dr Marwan Izzeldin, Director of Gulf One Lancaster Centre for Economic Research, spoke at the Global Islamic Finance and Investment Group (GIFIG) in Manchester last week, presenting an overview of the impact of the challenges facing the Islamic finance industry in the face of plummeting oil prices and volatile commodity markets.

The conference meeting, which was organised by HM Treasury, was attended by senior representatives from central banks, finance ministries and regulators from countries with high concentration of the Islamic finance industry.

The meeting was co-chaired by Harriett Baldwin MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury and The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
