Pair honoured with staff of the year awards
16 December 2015
Two members of staff have been honoured for the help and support they have given students over the past year.
Rory Daly, from the LUMS Careers team, and Dr Alison Stowell from the Department of Organisation, Work and Technology were both named LUMS Staff of the Year.
Placements and Internships Manager Rory was chosen for the award by students and the Undergraduate Office.
He said: “I was delighted to receive the award. I was particularly delighted that there was student involvement in selecting me. It’s really nice to be recognised for having supported the students in achieving their initial career aims.
“This is also recognition for our team. We work really closely together as CAER (Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations).”
Alison’s prize was in recognition of the work she undertook for LUMS students to attend the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) meetings in Paris, as well as her student feedback.
She said: “It came as a complete surprise. I had no idea until I opened the email. I was very touched.”
Alison was unable to collect her award at the LUMS Winter Ball in Blackpool because she was preparing to leave for Paris.
“To me, student engagement is an important part of our job,” she said. “When Professor Gail Whiteman gave us the chance to engage students at the WBCSD, I was only too pleased to accept.”
As well as the two staff prizes, awards were also given out to students and student-led groups and events.
This year’s award winners were:
LUMS Student of the Year: Lewis Corker
LUMS Student Ambassador of the Year: Ksenia Lebedeva
LUMS Society of the Year: The LUMS Marketing Society
LUMS Society Member of the Year: Philipp Kuschnir
