16 December 2016

Dr Ioannis Thanos and Alison Currie are the winners of this year’s LUMS Staff Member of the Year awards.

Ioannis, a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management, and Alison, the Business Studies Programme Coordinator, received their awards from the Dean at the annual Winter Ball which took place at the Villa Levens on 8th December.

Dr Thanos is PhD Director and Dissertation Coordinator for the Department of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation. He teaches both core (e.g., International Business Strategy) and advanced strategic management courses (e.g., Corporate Strategy, Managing Mergers and Acquisitions).

Ioannis said: “This award came as a surprise! I joined LUMS almost nine months ago and I have enjoyed every single day. I am delighted to be part of the Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation department and have the opportunity to teach brilliant students.”

Alison has worked in the Undergraduate Office for three years, and was singled out for the award for going above and beyond and showing real dedication to helping students.

She said: “It was a lovely and most welcome surprise to receive this award and I am delighted to have been nominated!”

As well as the two members of staff, a number of LUMS students also received recognition from their peers. They were:

  • Society Member of the Year Award- Goda Gavėnytė
  • Society Event of the Year Award-"How to be Successful in Business", Lancaster Entrepreneurs
  • Student of the Year Award- Georgia Harper
  • Student Ambassador of the Year Award- Monique Winstanley

Goda said: “I feel extremely grateful to everyone who motivated me. Credits to our friends the Entrepreneurs and Marketing society who supported us from the very early beginning. A very big thank you to LUMS and LUSU which helped us with organising important events. Many thanks to Finance and Investment, Economics and Advertising societies as we already managed to have some really nice events together. However, the biggest thank you goes to my exec members - Lana, Fong, Angela, Fidan, Isabella, Kelsey and Martina who were always close. I get inspired by them in every single meeting and event and I do feel that without their commitment and enthusiasm Bright Futures would not be in the same place as it is now."
