Visiting PhD student from Hong Kong Polytechnic University joins LCF

23 January 2013

The Lancaster Centre for Forecasting is continuously expanding and strengthening its activities in both research and practice. Towards this direction, M. Bastian Gao Zixuan (PhD candidate from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University under Professor Haiyan Song's supervision) has recently joined the Centre as a visiting researcher, engaging in joint research and working with academic colleagues.

Bastian’s research interests include decision support system, information system and demand forecasting. His main research interest is the design of a Forecasting Support System (FSS) specialised in tourism demand. During his four-month visit (January to April 2013) he will have discussions with the LCF researchers with three tasks: (i) to further improve the framework of Tourism Demand Forecasting Support System (TDFSS) developed in his PhD confirmation report; (ii) to discuss the methodology of verifying the developed framework; and (iii) to do a pilot test of the questionnaire going to be used in the Delphi survey.

LCF, which is actively engaging in designing and developing advanced FSSs, will provide significant support and guidance towards this direction. Moreover, this research visit will act as an opportunity to develop a bridge of collaboration between the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University forecasting team and the Lancaster Centre for Forecasting.
