LUMS Professor elected as Econometric Society Fellow

Lancaster University Management School’s Professor Eyal Winter has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Econometric Society.

Founded in 1930, the Econometric Society is an international society for the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. For more than 90 years the Society has been electing Fellows as a reflection of an individuals’ sustained excellence and impact in their scholarship – a rigorous process that sees candidates nominated by members, Fellows, and a Fellows Nominating Committee (FNC) and elected by the Society’s active Fellows.

Professor Eyal Winter, who is the P.W.S. Andrews and Elizabeth Brunner Chair in Industrial Economics at Lancaster University Management School, is one of 25 new Fellows announced, bringing the total elected to 1,254 elected since 1931. To date, 86 Econometric Society Fellows have won the Nobel Prize in Economics (the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel). Of these 86, 28 have been President of the Econometric Society.

Professor Eyal Winter said: “I am honoured to be elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society. This recognition by my peers is both humbling and encouraging. I see it as a tribute not only to my own work, but also to the vibrant and collaborative research environment that Lancaster University provides."

Professor Hilary Ingham, Head of the Economics Department at Lancaster University, said: “To be elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society is a rare and distinguished honour that signals a scholar as a leading light in their field. The Econometric Society’s Fellows list reads like a “who’s who” of outstanding economists and econometricians - so it is wonderful to see Professor Winter amongst the world’s very best.”
