OR Society 60th Conference with Lancaster Alumni Reception

Operational Research alumni from a range of graduation years came together with Management Science department staff members for an informal drinks reception in the Management School on 10th September.

The reception took place in advance of the Operational Research Society’s 60th Annual Conference, “OR60”, which was hosted at Lancaster University from 11th – 13th September.

Graham Rand, who hosted the drinks reception and chaired the OR60 organising committee, said: “It was good to see former students from long ago, some from even before I arrived in 1973, and those from more recent years. The conference was a good excuse to get together, and the reception enabled alumni to share something of what they had been, and are, up to, and to remind me how changed the campus is to those who haven’t visited for some time”.

Over 400 participants attended the OR60 conference. It included a wide range of streams, many of them organised by Lancaster staff. The plenary speakers included Lancaster University Emeritus Professor Peter Checkland, along with Professor Anna Nagurney (John F. Smith Memorial Professor, Isenberg School of Management Department of Operations and Information Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst) and John Hopes (EY’s Global Head of Business Modelling and OR Society President).
