The Pentland Centre is holding a Virtual Common Room with Dr Divya Jyoti, Dr Mahmoud Gad and Dr Rafael Savva on reforming the Modern Slavery Act.
Part 5 of the Immigration and Asylum Bill, now before Parliament, proposes wide-ranging amendments to the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It would change how potential victims are identified and supported, including who decides victim status, how credibility is assessed, and when protection and support can be withheld. It would also strengthen slavery and trafficking prevention and risk orders, including through electronic monitoring, and introduce more prescriptive requirements for modern slavery statements while extending reporting duties to public authorities. This session examines the proposed reforms from three perspectives: law, management practice and corporate reporting.
NB: The session runs from 11:00-12:00 on Teams. You can access the Team's meeting at tinyurl.com/VCR-MSA.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Relevant to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
