Edwin ReynoldsPhD student
I enrolled on the STOR-i programme in October 2016, going on to begin a PhD in October 2017. For my PhD, I am researching mathematical programming techniques for real-time railway rescheduling. I am supervised by Matthias Ehrgott, Judith Wang and Stephen Maher, and we are working with Anthony Patman from Network Rail.
The ultimate aim of my research is to reduce knock-on delay in railways by enabling better decisions to be taken, after an initial disruption, about how to re-route, re-time and cancel trains. To do this, we are creating a realistic optimisation model for this problem, and developing techniques to make it tractable to solve. More information can be found on my personal website.
I hold a BA in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, and an MSc in Operational Research from the University of Southampton, and have had work experience doing data science at both Deloitte and decisionLab.
