Dr Antonio Allegretti
Lecturer in Human GeographyResearch Overview
I am a human geographer and anthropologist researching socio-ecological transformations in Africa. My work examines the changing relationships between people, environments and economies through the lenses of food heritage, rural livelihoods and Blue Economy governance. Using ethnographic and political ecology approaches, I investigate how global environmental agendas, conservation initiatives and investment dynamics reshape everyday practices, access to resources and local knowledge systems. I am particularly interested in how coastal and rural communities navigate shifting livelihood opportunities, environmental uncertainties and new governance frameworks, and how these processes influence social differentiation, cultural values and the sustainability of socio-ecological systems.
