Dr Edward Austin
Senior Research AssociateResearch Overview
I am a research associate working on the BT funded NG-CDI grant. My research focus is on anomaly detection in streamed telecommunications data. Anomalies in this setting often consist of surprising events on the network and my research develops methods to identify them so that action can be taken to minimise disruption to critical infrastructure.
I am also completing a PhD, in collaboration with BT, focussing on identifying novel methods to detect emerging anomalies in streamed functional data.
My research interests include anomaly and changepoint detection, nonparametric statistics, and applications of functional data.
Current Teaching
My current teaching includes tutoring undergraduates on a range of subjects, from calculus and linear algebra, to probability and statistics.
Previously I have also been involved in teaching R, and several inference modules, to MSc Statistics and MSc Data Science Students.
