Natural Hazards and Conservation Day

Understanding natural hazards involves more than just grasping their physical characteristics; it's also about comprehending how they affect people. But do your students know how to respond during a natural disaster? In our interactive simulation game, students will collaborate in teams to uncover the causes of a disaster and make crucial decisions that impact the affected populations. Taking on the role of a first response team, they’ll apply what they've learned in real-world scenarios. Can they stay composed under pressure when disaster strikes? This session will build on their existing knowledge of natural hazards, allowing students to explore the causes, assess environmental and human impacts, and learn how to carry out hazard assessments.

Energy Day

The Energy Day is a full day's activities hosted by The Environment Centre, The School of Engineering, The Chemistry Department and The Energy Centre. The activities are designed to give your students an impression of the interdisciplinary collaboration required to tackle carbon reduction in energy production. Workshops include getting up close to the University's wind turbine, an explanation of turbine function and generating capacity; wind turbine design; and a demonstration of energy generation capacity within a UK renewals context. Hear from the Chemistry Department as they look at powering our future with alternative energy sources.
