Graduate School PGR Training

The Graduate School provides a programme of research training designed to provide you with the necessary skills to support your successful completion of your research degree and your personal development as a postgraduate researcher.

Training information for a website

As postgraduate researchers you are strongly encouraged to undertake training alongside your studies, to support both your personal and professional development as researchers. The Faculty of Science and Technology provides a range of workshops throughout the academic year to support you with this activity.

Our workshops will provide you with time to think about how to maintain your own wellbeing through the PhD experience and to help you prepare to present your research at conferences. We also offer several writing sessions to help you find the space to get your thesis done and careers workshops to guide you in thinking about what comes next.

How can I find workshops?

You can find and register for workshops using Inkpath

Before registering for the Inkpath platform, please ensure that you read the Inkpath Privacy Policy

The Inkpath platform will show training opportunities available to you from across the University, will help you to plan your training through the completion of a Development Needs Analysis and keep a record of your training during your time as a researcher at Lancaster.

All courses open 3 weeks before they are due to take place. If you find you are not able to attend a workshop after registering, please make sure you cancel your place to allow others to attend.

Researcher Development Framework and the Researcher Development Concordat

The workshops we provide enable the development of skills that are highlighted as vital for researchers in the Researcher Development Framework and the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.

The RDF provides more detail on the Four Domains. It is a tool for planning, promoting, and supporting the personal, professional, and career development of researchers undertaking postgraduate-level research, postdoctoral research, and early career research. When looking through our workshop programme, you will find each connected to a specific area of the RDF.

The four domains of the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) encompass what researchers need to be effective in their research when working with others, and in contributing to the wider society and environment.
