Hello there!

I am Beatriz de Castro a final-year Economics and International Relations student here at Lancaster University. Before I came to Lancaster, I went to high school in Spain and studied in the United States for a year as an exchange student in my penultimate year of high school. I did my Spanish baccalaureate focused on the field of Arts including Economics and Geography.

A day in my life

A typical day for me at University consists of going to campus first thing in the morning since I live in town. I moved to live in the city in my second year with a few of my best friends from my course and it was a good decision because we only live 15 minutes away from campus by bus. It is a good way to feel like you can come home away from the lectures and studies, and enjoy the vibrant activities that there are in town. Such as the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the many coffee shops, going thrifting with my friends...

I will normally have one to two lectures of 50 minutes each and a seminar of 50 minutes too. And between those, I will normally be in the library revising. I like to spend my day on campus because in the library and on campus in general, you can focus more on your studies as there is a very good study environment and you can always socialise with your friends in your study breaks.

I tend to spend my study breaks at the Hub in the Management School or at the Marketplace in County College, where I will have a cup of coffee and chat with my friends to get more energy to continue with my studies.

Another way for me to spend my free time has been working on campus, I work at the Deli and the Hub on campus which are both cafes; as well as as a Student Ambassador for the Management School. These part-time jobs have allowed me to make lots of new friends, and gain new skills and experiences.

Joining societies

Overall, I think a crucial part of my university experience here at Lancaster has been joining societies from the wide range of options that the University offers. I have done cheerleading and joined the UNICEF Society and Climate Action Society which allowed me to make life-long lasting friendships and memories. But more importantly, they have allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and learn new things.
