MBA Career Advancement Programme

The MBA Career Advancement Programme (CAP) is a specific part of the Full-time MBA and has its own dedicated teaching days scheduled into the full-time MBA timetable. Our aim is to deliver careers provision that will help you develop a lifetime skill for managing your career strategy by taking greater control over the decisions you will need to make.

The CAP consists of lectures, workshops, presentations by invited guests and regular meetings with the LUMS Careers team. There will also be opportunities to engage with alumni and employers. Within the CAP, you will have your own personal careers coach who will be there to support you throughout the year.

MBA students receive lifelong careers support, including the months after they complete the course, with access to a dedicated career coach. MBA alumni are welcome, and do, return for support several years into their post-MBA careers.

Build your global career campaign

You are the driver of your career. While we can help you clarify your goals, connect you with industry professionals, and support your applications, we cannot get you a job. Only you can demonstrate your personal skills, characteristics, and motivation to potential employers and convince them that you are the best candidate for a job.

Whether you have clearly defined career goals, are exploring options or are open to new career ideas, we are here to add real value to your MBA experience.

Careers support for you

We aim to support you in five key ways:

Personalised, one-to-one coaching and guidance

Receive continual support from a personal careers coach; address your goals, identify areas for development, and move towards your future career path. Appointments are available throughout the year, subject to staff availability, to discuss any aspect of your career: reviewing your options, targeting companies, refining your CV, improving your interview technique, or job-hunting strategies, and encouraging connections with people who can inform your career decisions through networking.

Alumni and employer events

Each year we arrange networking events to help you increase your alumni/employer contacts. CAP events draw on all the skills and knowledge you will have developed during the MBA Programme. Alumni highly recommend these activities as they focus attention on their overall career strategy and job-securing techniques.

Practical sessions

Participate in workshops focusing on success in the recruitment process, delivered by experienced professionals. Hone your performance through tailored interview scenarios, assessment centre group exercises and case study practice sessions.

Expand your professional network

We maintain close contact with alumni through newsletters and events around the world, as well as by updating employment and location information. This benefits the class as we help you make connections that are useful for your future careers. Our alumni are amongst the most supportive in the University, and many of them give their time generously and are members of our LinkedIn group, which we thoroughly recommend you join once you have enrolled as a student. Once you graduate, remain part of the alumni network and benefit from continued support.
