Leading academics and policy experts convened in Lancaster to discuss the economic challenges of climate adaptation, environmental policy, and green innovation.

The Climate Adaptation, Policy, Redistribution, and Green Innovation (CLIMADAP) Workshop took place at Lancaster University’s Lancaster Castle suite.

It brought together researchers from universities, including Lancaster, central banks, and international institutions to exchange ideas on how firms, households, and policymakers respond to climate change. Contributors came from the OECD, Banca d’Italia, De Nederlandsche Bank, Università di Roma Tre and Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique.

The workshop focused on key themes including climate adaptation, environmental policy design, redistribution, firm behaviour, and green innovation. It formed part of a broader research agenda linked to a Horizon Europe application and aimed at building a durable international research network in climate and macroeconomic policy, in particular by coordinating partnerships for future grant applications.

Dr Diego Känzig, of Northwestern University (pictured below), delivered the keynote address, providing key insights into current research on climate policy and macroeconomic dynamics.

The workshop was supported by the British Academy Grant Pump Priming Collaboration between UK and EU Partners 2025-26 for the Adaptation to Climate Change: The Role of Firms, Innovation, and Environmental Policy project.

That project is led by Lancaster University Management School’s Professor Lorenza Rossi and Dr Stefano Fasani, together with Dr Omar Rachedi, of Esade; Dr Gauthier Vermandel, of École Polytechnique; and Professor Barbara Annicchiarico, of Università di Roma Tre.

This grant has served as a spin-off for a Horizon Europe Cluster 5 project led by Lancaster University in collaboration with the Paris School of Economics, École Polytechnique, CEPREMAP, and Esade Business School.
