Barclays give valuable banking insights to Lancaster students
Students found answers to key questions about careers in banking and financial technology with a visit to one of the UK’s leading banks.
Postgraduate students on Lancaster University Management School’s MSc Human Resource Management, MA Human Resources and Consulting, MSc Digital Business, Innovation and Management, and MSc Financial Innovation, Technology and AI programmes spent a day at Barclays Technology Centre Radbroke.
Radbroke is Barclays’ largest technology centre in the UK and home to their global Technology Command Centre, employing approximately 7,000 employees on its 64-acre site. Barclays are one of a growing number of multinational companies based in the North West Cyber Corridor, giving Lancaster students opportunities to access a well-established cyber and tech ecosystem.
The postgraduate students were able to find answers to key questions such as how do you launch a career in banking or fin tech? What is it like to work for one of the world’s largest banks? And how do you transition from life as a Master’s student to a career at a multinational institution?
The day involved panel discussions, Q&As and site tours with leaders from different sectors of the business. This allowed the group to find out what it takes to work for Barclays as well as gain key insights on the recruitment process.
Professor Niki Panteli, Programme Director for MSc Digital Business, Innovation and Management, said: “The visit was a great success, and is the result of the strong relationship that has been developing between Lancaster University and Barclays. We are already working on future events which will include hackathons and skill bootcamps.”
The Lancaster team led by Professor Panteli, Professor Olga Kolokolova, Dr Yu Fu, and Kyle Davies thanked Neil Thompson, Tim McCoy, Caroline Lambert, Karl Longworth, Danielle Whalley, Brittany Perkins-Dean and their colleagues for hosting the event and sharing their knowledge with the students.
