Principles of Responsible Management Education Co-ordinatorProfile
I am a professional services employee currently working in two roles within the University. My genuine interest lies in harnessing the power of design thinking to drive innovation in environmental solutions, enabling us to achieve crucial environmental goals. With a deep appreciation for conservation work, I am dedicated to preserving our natural heritage and biodiversity for future generations.Through my work, I aim to drive positive change and create meaningful contributions that shape a greener and more sustainable future for all.
As part of my role with the Pentland Centre I have created and coordinate the Sustainability in Business Research network, which aims to connect postgraduate researchers working on related topics across the university. In addition to this I set up and now co-ordinate the Faculty Sustainability Working Group in LUMS, which provides management school based staff the opportunity to collaborate on faculty sustainability projects. These initiatives are part of Pentland's contribution to the Principles for Responsible Management Education initiative.
Through my RES based role I provide support to the Knowledge Exchange projects. This involves production of communications materials and websites and developing monitoring and compliance systems among other tasks that help projects from the development stage through to closure and archiving.
Previously I have worked in communications and project support for the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation at Lancaster Uni and in the Community and Engagement team at the Students Union as a project coordinator (student staff member). You can find out more about my previous roles and work outside of the university on LinkedIn.
Research Overview
My interests and academic background lie in design, sustainability, and the environment.I am currently involved in the i-Connect project run by Dr Radka Newton, Dr Jekaterina Rindt and Dr Mirian Calvo. The project explores how design methods can be applied to address significant challenges like achieving Net Zero, aiming to create tools to integrate these methods into policy-making. Using both design and systems thinking, the project endeavours to understand and address the complex interplay of factors shaping the transport landscape within the Lancaster City region. As a student, my undergraduate dissertation was a self-led project on the impact of indoor plants on Nitrogen Dioxide and my masters dissertation with industry examined redesigning lifestcok auction waste management systems for a circular economy. I undertook a research Internship looking into composting products and techniques with a view to inform new product development. Additionally I took 3 years worth of Design Thinking modules and produced a report on the value of Open Innovation platforms in grassroots sustainability projects.I am keen to take on more design and research work so please do reach out if you feel I could be of use on your project.
