The Maths Learning Development (MLD) Team at LU is running a sharing practice event to showcase a proactive, tailored and timely delivered service that we offer to LU students.

This approach allows meeting the demand of a diverse student body (e.g. students from non-traditional university entry routes and students who have specific learning difficulties (SpLD)) to enhance students’ learning experience and improve retention. The MLD team has received very positive feedback from our students, so we would like to share our experience and lessons from practice with colleagues at LU and in the wider HE sector.

We are also interested in hearing the LU staff views on supporting students’ learning in maths and maths-related disciplines. We invite you to give a 5 minute presentation during our discussions.

We are keen to promote using peer-assisted study groups (PASS) (Supplemental Instruction (SI)/ Peer-assisted learning (PAL)) as a way of supporting students on "difficult" courses.

Keynote presentations will be given by

Michael Grove (University of Birmingham) – The Deputy Head of Education within the School of Mathematics, previously Director of the National HE STEM - presenting ‘Mathematics support: Learning from past and present to prepare for the future’.

Leif Bryngfors (Lund University, Sweden) - the Director of SI-PASS European Centre – presenting ‘SI-PAL-PASS: a Rose with many names’ .

This event is sponsored by FST and Teach-Learn-Share initiative at LUMS and FHM.
