CCI Student/Faculty Roundtable Discussion Social Media's 'Otherwordly' Subcultures

In this CCI Special Roundtable Session we explore how social media’s ‘otherworldly’ subcultures serve as a vehicle for mobilising and engaging movements that reflect mystical, magical, and uncanny phenomenon and wider consumption trends. Topical belief systems propagated by these zeitgeisty-inspired movements include: spirituality, manifestation, paranormal encounters, ominous folklore, and UFOS (#doyoubelieve) – collectively reaching billions of views on the social media platform ‘TikTok’, alone.

Join us as we discuss and debate theories related to post-political boredom (“nobody is bored but everything is boring” ), magical voluntarism, millennial conspiracism, and other possible explanations for today’s upsurge of interest in transcendental, magical-led thinking.

Whether you’re a ghost-hunter, alien-spotter, master of manifestation, spell-caster, or simply enjoy the thrill of imagining worlds ‘beyond’ our ownwe would love for you to join us and share your stories, opinions, and experiences with otherworldly consumption!
