This workshop, led by Professor Steve Kempster, will explore the increasingly contentious issue of growth: on the one hand, growth is essential for human flourishing; and yet, on the other, our approaches to growth have led us to a dangerous place for such flourishing to continue.
Steve will offer up ideas that seek to provide a philosophic and a deeply practical way forward – how to realise regenerative businesses where business value and social impact are both enhanced. It is not a question of either/or; profits vs social impact. That is where we have been with an outdated model and one that is leading us to deep trouble. Ideas around realising ‘good dividends’ and ‘good growth’ takes us to a very different place. Examples of large and many small businesses pursuing a regenerative agenda will be outlined.
Participants will be able to undertake an audit to understand the scope of their journey ahead: ‘Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference’ (Robert Frost). In many ways business, society and indeed humanity has reached this critical fork in the road. To take the road less travelled requires leadership; a form of leadership that seeks to serve all in a manner that enhances all … including growth for investors.
