My experience as an Economics and International Relations student

About me

Spending three years at Lancaster University has made me realise, as a third-year student, how much I appreciate having chosen this university for my undergraduate degree. My name is Alba, and I am a student from Spain pursuing my undergraduate in Economics and International Relations; therefore, moving to England was a huge difference from where I am from, but the environment, people, and facilities made me adapt myself easily.

My life at University

I am currently living off-campus with my friends, and I believe this can be a fantastic experience, allowing you to separate your daily life at university from your home life. My typical day revolves around lectures, seminars, group work, and independent study. Where in lectures I get to learn new concepts, theories, and ideas; being able to discuss topics in smaller groups, ask questions, and explore different perspectives with my peers in seminars is my favourite part as they tend to be interactive and engaging.

When I'm not in lectures or seminars, I spend time in the library working on assignments or enjoying the cafes around campus as part of my breaks from assignments.

The library is a great place to study, and I often use group study rooms with my classmates. If I need a change of scenery, I sometimes go to other study spaces available in the LUMS building. During lunch breaks, I usually meet up with friends at the Learning Zone or Alexandra Square if it is sunny, where we relax and catch up on each other's lives. This is a great way to break up the day and recharge for the rest of it.

Moreover, I was involved in the Cheerleading Society, which was an enriching experience not only to support your university but also to experience a broad range of events such as competitions or the annual Roses tournament, which is incredibly important in the sports community at Lancaster University. Apart from sports, I am also involved in various societies, such as UNICEF Lancaster, which organises fundraiser events to raise money for those in need. Furthermore, I also have a part-time job at a cafeteria and am a Student Ambassador for LUMS.

Overall, studying at Lancaster University has been a great experience. My course has been engaging, and the support from the tutors and staff is excellent. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities, which makes the student experience enjoyable and fulfilling.
