Hello from Lancaster!

As the winter chill settles over our beautiful campus, I wanted to share some insights and updates from my first term at Lancaster. I can’t believe it’s been almost 4 months since I joined this captivating campus as a master student.

During the winter holidays and Christmas break, Lancaster truly transforms into a winter wonderland. I was on campus for the entire season and was curious to witness the Christmas magic here. I can tell you I was not disappointed at all, with the Christmas market in particular an absolute must visit! The historic city centre lights up with festive decorations, making it look amazing. I loved it on campus, because it was so calm and quiet. There were some winter activities planned by different colleges for students staying on campus like Christmas movies, game nights, festive bake-offs and even ice skating. It was good to see how the University also offers support for students staying on campus during the break, ensuring no one feels left out during the holiday season.

Speaking of my first term, I am still not over the fact that it's already been more than three months since I came to Lancaster. My first term has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time. Lectures are engaging and knowledgeable, and the workshop-based approaches really encourage deeper understanding and critical thinking.

As for exams and coursework, I have learned time management skills in a different way, as I recently finished with my exams. The support services like academic skills workshops and writing mentors, have been incredibly helpful in easing the transition into postgraduate study. The advice I can offer here is to engage as much as you can with the fantastic faculties and resources available.

Lancaster’s campus has a vibrant cultural scene for students here, with the cultural societies set for their big events this year. I know this because I am actively working on some of them right now, the South Asian Ball and Chinese New Year events. These events are spectacular showcase of the diverse cultures represented at Lancaster, featuring dance, music, and food from all around the world. I really enjoy this terrific opportunity to truly feel part of Lancaster's international community.

I hope you all had a wonderful festive season and are looking forward to the new year and new term!
