My first month studying MSc Finance at LUMS

Ecstatic about a new phase and the opportunity to advance my career prospects in the financial services industry, I bid my friends and family over 5,000 miles farewell. This was a bittersweet experience for me because I was leaving my comfort zone and my friends and family, whom I love so much, to pursue a postgraduate degree in the United Kingdom.

My arrival at the Manchester airport and the university campus was incredible. The university provided shuttle services for students from the airport to the university campus. When I arrived at the campus, I was warmly received by the college porters, and I met a colourful "Welcome to Your New Home" card in my room.

My standard room accommodation was beyond my expectations, and my housemates, who are from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds, were amazing. View the types of accommodation available.

The first week was filled with many welcome activities by the department, my college (graduate college), and the student union. While this is a good time to settle into the college, please ensure that you get the essentials needed by an international student in the United Kingdom. These include opening a bank account, getting a sim card, registering with your doctor, and so on. Please, have fun while at it, because the semester will get busy along the way.

The finance department is known to be intensive. I had my first test (a diagnostic test) in my first week on campus. But there is no problem. I was provided with academic resources before my arrival, and the grades did not affect my transcript. However, you should study every academic material for the session to be a walk-over.

Finally, the rest of the month was filled with meeting new lecturers and coursemates, attending classes, grocery shopping in the city, and hanging out with friends during my spare time.
