The sheer scale of the economic impact of COVID-19 is becoming ever clearer. There is, therefore, an urgent need to consider the support that businesses and places will need, together with the kinds of new thinking and innovation that could be harnessed as we seek to recover from the most significant downturn in living memory. But the challenges facing specific sectors and places vary significantly.

This event will explore how a refreshed Industrial Strategy can respond to both the needs and opportunities found across different parts of the economy in order to help drive economic recovery in the years ahead. The event is the first in a series of sessions organised by Lancaster University Management School and the Work Foundation aimed at supporting businesses and policymakers as they seek to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. It picks up some of the themes discussed in the ‘Productivity Connections’ events run in 2018 by the LUMS Centre for Productivity & Efficiency, the Work Foundation, and the North West Business Leadership Team.
