Event Details

Wayne Hemingway MBE will talk about building his first brand Red or Dead from a market stall to an internationally recognised fashion label with 23 shops around the world and a turnover of £25 million without advertising, without a marketing department and without funding.

After selling the brand in the late 90s Wayne went on to set up multi-disciplinary design agency and events company HemingwayDesign. Wayne will share how through social values (and social media) HemingwayDesign and its roster of national festivals has developed deep audience trust and a following in the hundreds of thousands.

Career History

One of the UK's leading business figures with four decades' experience in the design industry, Wayne’s passion for cost effective design and thought-provoking insights on how creativity can have societal impact provide real talking points for businesses, employees and individuals alike.

Having grown up in Morecambe, Wayne and his partner (in marriage and business) Gerardine began the iconic fashion label Red or Dead at a second-hand fashion stall in Camden market, later selling their company in a multi-million pound deal, having created one of the strongest British brands of the 90s.

They then set up HemingwayDesign, which has created affordable new build housing schemes, 'turned around' troubled estates, and instigated a host of impactful seaside regeneration projects.
