Are you finishing your Bachelors or Masters degree in a subject with substantial quantitative content? Do you hope to get excellent results? Do you want to develop solutions to challenging, real-world problems which can make a difference to business and society?

Lancaster University Management School is the most research-intensive business school in the UK (REF, 2014).  Our Department of Management Science houses one of the largest and most influential OR groups in Europe.

We are looking to recruit up to four researchers for PhD study in any area of the department’s OR research portfolio.

Candidates should:

• be excellent doctoral students with a strong quantitative background (such as mathematics, physics, computer science or engineering)
• satisfy the UK residency requirement for full EPSRC support (usually met by EU students whose undergraduate studies were in the UK)

Successful candidates with a suitable Masters degree will be awarded a 3.5-year research studentship, while those with a Bachelors degree will be admitted to a 1+3-year programme which incorporates an initial year of research training (MRes). As part of your doctoral training, you will be able to access a wide range of opportunities for personal and skills development, including association with Lancaster’s Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistics and OR (STOR-i).

The researchers will receive a stipend of £17k to £19k (plus having their fees paid).

Doctoral supervision is available in the following areas:

• Optimisation
• Forecasting
• Simulation and Stochastic Modelling
