The new post holder will focus on modelling the global and regional economic impacts of Arctic-driven climate change on agriculture and potentially on one other industry sector.
They will be supervised by Pentland Centre Director Professor Gail Whiteman, who aims to help organisations deal more effectively with sustainability challenges. Professor Whiteman is currently leading a number of large research grants, including the multi-disciplinary ICE-ARC research grant coordinated by the British Antarctic Survey. The new Research Associate will be part of this project.
The Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business is a cross-faculty centre bringing together the Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and other groups at the University. It opened last autumn and aims to link science and business to help business leaders understand climate change and other social issues. It also looks at how businesses can help environmental sustainability.
The centre, which is based in LUMS, is named after the Pentland Group - the company behind some of the world’s leading outdoor and sportswear brands such as Speedo, Berghaus and Ellesse to name a few and will be supported by The Rubin Foundation Charitable Trust for 5 years.
