LUMS placement students and alumni reunite at London event

15 May 2015

Current and former placement students came together recently for an informal networking event in London.

The reunion, at the Verve bar in Leicester Square on 30th April, was attended by 45 students and alumni from a variety of degree programmes, such as BBA Management, BSc Business Studies, BA Management & Entrepreneurship and BSc Marketing Management.

Placement alumni, who have graduated in the past 3 years, had a great opportunity to learn about what is going on at the University and share their experiences of work life after graduation. Likewise, current students enjoyed exchanging stories from their placement and talking about how this would impact their student life in the final academic year.

Marketing Management student Dessi Doncheva said: “It was great to catch up with my fellow students; I made some new contacts and heard lots of interesting stories."

"It is a very comfortable feeling to know LUMS are looking after us with so much care and dedication!”

Recent BBA graduate Hazel Morton, also enjoyed the event.

“As an alumna, I really appreciate the ongoing support and contact from LUMS," she said.

"It is good to catch up with all the staff and find out what changes are going on. It’s also a great opportunity to network with fellow alumni and current students who are on placement.

"As I work in the recruitment industry for SW6 Associates, placing graduates into recruitment roles, maintaining these networks are very important to me – we’ve even been advertising our placement roles through LUMS.

"I encourage people to attend the events.”

LUMS Placements and Internships Manager Rory Daly thought that the evening was a great success.

“This was the first event specifically aimed jointly at placement students and those alumni who had taken a placement as part of their degree," he said.

"It was really helpful for our current students to hear how alumni had developed their careers and for the alumni to hear about life back at Lancaster.”

Kasia Kowalska, a BBA student who is currently completing a placement in the LUMS Alumni department, reflected that: “The event was very well-attended; having alumni still engaging with LUMS after graduation is a great testament to their fond memories of the University and the quality of experience they had here.

"Throughout the conversations during the event, it could really be seen that placements do broaden people’s horizons and increase their understanding of the business world.”
