The recipient of the fully-funded scholarship will join a collaborative research programme between the two departments in Lancaster University to start in September/October 2015.

The research project is in the fast-developing area of marketing analytics, and focusses on the retail demand for petrol and the benefits of competitive pricing. This project, which is supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training in collaboration with fuel pricing company IIS Ltd, is ideal for someone looking at a research-focused job in academia, consulting or industry.

The studentship will provide full academic fees and maintenance for up to 3.5 years (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16), subject to satisfactory progress. In addition, there is a supplementary payment of £3,000  p.a. to recognise the importance of industry-based research work. There are also considerable additional allowances for research expenses and conference attendance, as well as the opportunity to benefit from the extensive training programme and facilities offered by STOR-i.

Entry requirements

A very good degree (projected 1st class or high 2.1) in Statistics, Management Science/ Operational Research or Economics, or in a cognate discipline with a significant Maths/Stats component. Alternatively, strong performance on a relevant masters degree (e.g. in Statistics or Operational Research).
