New support in maths and statistics for undergraduates

05 September 2014

The LUMS Effective Learning Team has been awarded funding by the SIGMA Network for Excellence in Mathematics and Statistics Support to set up a Maths and Stats Help (MASH) Centre within the School.

The funding, which runs for a period of two years and was matched by LUMS, will enable the LUMS Effective Learning Team to provide one-to-one Maths and Stats support to LUMS undergraduate students, to help them manage the quantitative demands of their degree programmes and prepare them for the demands of graduate employers.

The Maths and Stats Help (MASH) Centre will be piloted based on the model of the hugely successful Academic Writing Zone which was set up in 2011, and will be open to LUMS undergraduates from all departments.

The centre will be staffed by a qualified maths tutor and a team of trained student mentors. The project will also enable LUMS to play an active role in the Sigma Network, promoting LUMS Effective Learning and sharing good practice. The centre will open in the Autumn term.
