Extended LUMS partnership with Timberlake enables students to build postgraduate qualifications in Econometrics, 100% online

A new agreement between Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and Timberlake Consultants Ltd means students can now access postgraduate courses in Econometrics that can be studied flexibly, online, and can lead to further qualifications.
The Department of Economics and Timberlake have been collaborating on the design and delivery of co-developed, LUMS-endorsed modules in the broad area of Applied Econometrics since 2019. This latest agreement means students can now access modules that can lead to further Lancaster University qualifications - from a Postgraduate Certificate of Achievement to a full Master’s of Science (MSc) - and helps meet the growing demands from employers for graduates in economics and related disciplines who specialise in econometric data analysis.
Director of Timberlake, Teresa Timberlake, said:
“I am very pleased that we have extended our partnership and strong working relationship with Lancaster University for the delivery of new online, part-time postgraduate programmes in Applied Econometrics. “At the very forefront of the postgraduate programme is the world-class faculty that we have brought together to deliver the flexible module structure of the learning journey who are the specialists in their subject area, and from a variety of leading institutions from around the world. The field of econometrics and data science is rapidly expanding and is becoming increasingly more important in both the industry and academic sectors. With this partnership expansion with Lancaster University and the unique nature of the online microcredential postgraduate courses, Timberlake maintains its position as a pioneering full-service solutions provider in the sector. This is something that we are incredibly excited about.”Head of the Department of Economics at LUMS, Professor Themis Pavlidis, said:
“We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Timberlake with the introduction of our new online, part-time postgraduate programmes in Applied Econometrics. “These programmes, which range from a PG Certificate of Achievement to a full Master’s degree, build upon the unique synergies and a shared mission of the two institutions to provide students with a high-quality educational product that meets the market demand for graduates in the broad area of econometric data analysis, including big data and machine learning. The programmes offer flexibility to students by allowing them to accumulate credit in a way that suits them over an extended time frame, and are designed for the likes of graduate students, academics, researchers and practitioners at government agencies, financial institutions and central banks.”The dramatic increase in data availability together with advances in econometrics, statistics, and machine learning over the last decade have led to a strong demand for graduates in economics and related disciplines who specialise in econometric data analysis. This has created a need for universities with sufficient expertise and cutting-edge knowledge to introduce programmes that reflect the new economic environment. In parallel to the increasing demand for data specialists, the popularity of micro-credential courses has also been on the rise due to the flexibility these courses provide to individuals for gaining knowledge and advancing their career.
There is currently no online specialised postgraduate programme in Applied Econometrics anywhere in the UK or Europe that delivers on the agenda of this programme. The MSc will leverage on LUMS’ expertise and reputation, alongside a number of distinguished national and international associates of Timberlake, which is a major worldwide econometric and statistical software supplier, as well as a reputable training provider, means that more students can benefit from developing their specialist skills in a flexible way that fits for them.
This is a flexible and practice-oriented program that equally caters for academics and practitioners. It pledges to deliver on the skills and knowledge required to analyse and simulate data to inform the debate in various areas, ranging from climate data to financial markets and much more.
