Whether you're new to practice theory, deeply embedded in its debates, or simply curious about what practice theory can do, you’re warmly invited to join researchers from around the world for the sixth Practice Theory Gathering!
This informal, international online event brings together short talks, a panel debate, discussion groups, social spaces, and writing workshop- all designed to support exchange and connection across disciplines and career stages.
It will draw on the expertise and experience of, among others:
Brian Pentland, Anique Hommels, Elizabeth Shove, Ted Schatzki, Stanley Blue, Thomas Alkemeyer, Seweryn Rudnicki, and many more recursively involved in the event over the years!
In an attempt to grasp how the social can seemingly be portrayed both as made of accelerating consequential change and rampant inertia, the Gathering will reflect on how change comes about (or not), materializes and travels across different paths and scales.
Day One (19 Nov) will open with short presentations and a panel discussion on paths of obduracy and dynamics of change, followed by Mini Gatherings, a Q&A with panelists, Ideas Playgrounds, the traditional Capping Off Ceremony, and informal virtual pubs.
Day Two (20 Nov) is dedicated to roundtable discussions of short texts submitted by participants. In small, supportive groups, we’ll discuss work-in-progress with feedback from peers and experienced researchers. The day ends with virtual dinner parties - bring your own food!
Throughout the Gathering there will also be informal spaces to meet, chat, and connect with fellow practice theory enthusiasts.
