A Cross-University scholarship seminar series: 'Enhancing Student Success'

SCiLAB (The Open University’s Scholarship Centre for the Faculty of Business and Law), in collaboration with Cardiff, Lancaster and Manchester Metropolitan Universities is delighted to invite you to a summer seminar series for 2025.

The theme for the series is ‘enhancing student success’, featuring presentations from like-minded colleagues with similar research areas across legal and business education.

We will be welcoming presenters from across all four Universities to speak about their exciting research and scholarship. Held via Microsoft Teams, each event will feature 15-minute presentations with questions and a group discussion at the end.

Hossam Kassem

Open University

Hossam Kassem has worked as a Learning and Teaching Librarian at the OU Library since March 2018. He is an Academic Liaison Librarian covering STEM and FBL, delivers online training sessions. Hossam is also an accessibility librarian, he supports disabled students as well as work with publishers to make their e-content accessible to disabled users. He is also an Operational Lead for Academic Liaison at the OU Library.

Mel Holmes

Open University

Mel, previously worked as an inhouse solicitor, joined The Open University in 2000, as an Associate Lecturer on Access and Level 1 Law modules. She is currently a Lecturer and Student Experience Manager, a regional academic role, which includes bringing the student perspective to developing module/programme teaching and learning design.

Stephen Thomas Homer

Sunway, Lancaster University

Stephen is a seasoned academic at Sunway University, specializes in business management, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and sustainable development. Since 2017, he has progressed from a PhD Studentship Student to an Associate Professor, delivering courses such as Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Ethics, and Principles of Management with acclaim from students.
