A Cross-University scholarship seminar series: 'Enhancing Student Success'

SCiLAB (The Open University’s Scholarship Centre for the Faculty of Business and Law), in collaboration with Cardiff, Lancaster and Manchester Metropolitan Universities is delighted to invite you to a summer seminar series for 2025.

The theme for the series is ‘enhancing student success’, featuring presentations from like-minded colleagues with similar research areas across legal and business education.

We will be welcoming presenters from across all four Universities to speak about their exciting research and scholarship. Held via Microsoft Teams, each event will feature 15-minute presentations with questions and a group discussion at the end.

Speakers

Andrew Potter

Open University

Andrew completed his BSc degree in Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh in 2006, and went on to study a PhD in algorithmic number theory at the University of Bristol, under the supervision of Prof Jonathan Pila. He graduated in 2010, with a thesis entitled Computing the factors of the cyclotomic polynomial.

Caroline Derry

Open University

Caroline Derry joined the Open University in April 2017, teaching subjects including criminal and evidence law. She is Professor of Feminism, Law and History. Her other roles include Deputy Director Research Degrees.

Daniel Russell

Open University

Daniel joined the OU as a Student Experience Manager in February 2021. After completing his first degree and spending seven years working in academic publishing, Daniel had a career change to become a teacher. Coupling his love for travel and his interest in Eastern Europe, he moved to Poland and completed a Cambridge University CELTA in Kraków before settling in Warsaw for 10 years.

Khadija Tahera

Open University

I am a Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Department of People and Organisations at Business School. Before joining the Open University, I worked as a Lecturer and then a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Huddersfield. I have also worked as a researcher at Cranfield University and consultant at the University of the Arts London.

Wannette Van-Eg-Dom-Tuinstra

Open University

I teach Criminal Law (W111) and EU Law (W330) and have also worked at the OU Policy Research Clinic. I am an engaged academic. Prior to teaching in higher education, I undertook human rights research and advocacy projects for a range of NGOs. I am also an Employment Mediator.
