Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

I was first drawn to studying at LUMS because of the amazing reputation of both the university and the school. The outstanding facilities on offer, such as the careers service, confirmed to me that LUMS was the perfect place for me to learn and grow due to the invaluable support that would be available to me throughout my higher education journey.

What was the best thing about your course?

The best thing about my course was the variety of modules on offer. Ranging from statistical and mathematical modules to more qualitative and applied modules, I was able to achieve a well-rounded understanding of my degree subject. I was also fortunate to have an array of assessment styles throughout my degree. Essays, midterms, presentations and group projects all developed my skill set in different but vital ways.

Did you do a project, placement or study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

I undertook an internship with the Civil Service during my time at LUMS. I worked across the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as part of the Northern Powerhouse team. My role of Policy Support involved researching and producing reports to support policy decisions, minute-taking and producing a regular internal newsletter. This opportunity allowed me to apply the economic knowledge I had gained from LUMS to real-life problems. This internship then proved to be a vital stepping stone in achieving my graduate role in the Civil Service.

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

Lancaster is a brilliant place to study and live. Its small but vibrant community ensures you never get bored and always feel safe. There are an array of restaurants, bars and clubs available where you will inevitably bump into a friend or two, creating a welcoming environment for any university student.
