Global Assistant Brand Manager, PZ Cussons

I chose to study the BA Advertising and Marketing at Lancaster because I felt right at home on the first open day I attended. Plus the campus was very appealing and the Management School has an outstanding international reputation.

Lancaster taught me valuable academic and personal skills I will never forget. I found the group projects and presentations a great way to combine these two aspects. Oh, and being an Advertising student, expect presentations to become second nature!

During the third year of the course, I completed a live project for a digital marketing company. As a group of five, we carried out focus groups, questionnaires and an eye tracking study on behalf of the organisation. This led to writing a commercial report and presenting our research to three directors.

Whilst at Lancaster I joined the Lancaster University Volunteering Unit (LUVU) where I volunteered as a primary school classroom assistant and helped a local charity with customer relationship management.

In my second year I took part in L'Oréal Brandstorm, which is a competition designed for students to decode a brief and design a product and integrated campaign for a L'Oréal product. The first heat was held in the Management School where I and my group and I had to present our initial ideas to a panel from L'Oréal, along with 14 other teams. After intense nail biting, our team won the Lancaster heat and we went to the national final at L'Oréal headquarters in London! We also got lots of freebies and even a trip to a top London advertising agency.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I decided to stay at Lancaster (because I loved it so much!) to do a Masters in the Psychology of Advertising. After completing this degree I joined MEC Manchester (a media agency) as a Graduate Buyer and Planner in the Broadcast department working with an array of well-known clients. Studying at Lancaster helped me to focus on obtaining a career in advertising, and I am thrilled to say that after years of hard work, I got there in the end! I now work in brand management for Carex products in PZ Cussons.
