Lancaster MBA Women group provides inspiration and support

MBA women group

A group of MBA alumnae met recently for afternoon tea and informal networking at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe. The event, which took place on 18 January, was the second organised by Lancaster MBA Women group founder, Sarah O’Rourke (EMBA, 2018). Emma Watton, Executive MBA Programme Director, also attended.

Asked about her motivation for setting up the group, Sarah commented: “The idea for the group came while I was writing my MBA reflective dissertation. I discussed the importance of a strong support network and spoke about my own informal network, which provided invaluable support through difficult challenges.

I wanted to develop and share this idea further so I founded Lancaster MBA Women. My aim for the group is to provide a place where women in leadership can inspire and support each other through meet-ups, mentoring and events, in a relaxed and friendly environment. My hope is that through this community, connections are made that are lasting and authentic, and that offer support whilst opening up the future to new opportunities and ideas.”

The group has already started to reap the benefits of informal networking, with several members supporting one another on areas such as career advice, interesting talks to attend or books to read.

Sarah is hoping to hold the third event after Easter. To connect with the group, please contact lumsalumni@lancaster.ac.uk.
