Osama Rahman
Osama joined the Data Science Campus as Director in September 2022. He was previously the Department for Education’s (DfE) Chief Analyst and Chief Scientific Adviser for four and a half years where he was responsible for the provision of analytical and scientific advice to ministers and senior officials.
Before joining DfE, Osama spent fourteen and a half years at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) with the last three and a half years as Chief Analyst and Chief Scientific Adviser, a year at the Civil Aviation Authority, and 10 years as a lecturer and senior lecturer in economics at various UK universities.
Supporting Osama is Mat Weldon
Mat is a Senior Data Scientist in the Data Science Campus, working on Privacy-Enhancing Technologies. Prior to joining the ONS, he worked at the Department for Education. In 2021 Mat and colleagues won the John Hoy Award for the best piece of economic analysis in government. Before joining the civil service, Mat completed a PhD in statistics at Lancaster, and a postdoc in the Economics department. Before that, he worked for several years in administrative jobs in the private and public sectors.
Also contributing will be Andrew Banks, a Lead Data Scientist at The Data Science Campus, who will be coming along to talk about the work he’s been leading on local evaluations
