Lecture Three
The Islamic Worlds of the Renaissance Era: from Ottoman Mosques to the Taj Mahal
This talk examines the opulent and dynamic art of Islamic cultures during the 15th-17th centuries, including powerful Empires like those of the Timurids, Safavids, Ottomans and Mughals. From grand majestic domes to intricate “miniature” paintings, the technical complexity of these works deserves more attention. We will also explore categories overlooked by the more Eurocentric canon, such as textiles and ceramics.
All are welcome to this free event.
