How to safely enjoy BBQs on campus

The University campus has a range of areas designed for barbecues – here’s where to find them and how to use them safely.
Fixed charcoal BBQs
Fixed charcoal barbecues are located in County and Grizedale Colleges and are available for you to use. Please remember that once you’ve finished, the used charcoal should be disposed of into the metal barbecue disposal bins provided. For more guidance, please check the barbecue guidance documents linked from the bottom of this page.
Electric BBQs
Electric barbacues are available to hire out. There are two barbecue stations on campus, each housing four electric barbecues. They are key operated and may be used by any member of the University. Keys are held by Security and will be given to students and members of staff on a first-come-first-serve basis from the Security Lodge between the hours of 8am-9pm. Find out more about how to arrange use of electric BBQs using the guidance documents linked below.
Disposable BBQs
Disposable barbecues can only be used in designated areas on campus, and they should only be placed on surfaces that will not be damaged by the heat, such as stone or brick surfaces. If you plan to have a disposable BBQ on campus please check the guidance linked below.
