Research Overview

My research takes a leadership-as-practice perpsective and asks what an analysis of spoken interaction reveals about collective aspects of leadership work. I follow a linguistic ethnographic tradition which combines an ethnographic, field-based approach with the empirical procedures and analytical tools of linguistics. I am interested in the micro-dynamics of power in workplace conversations and the ways in which these contribute to women’s experience of authority and agency in professional settings.
