People will now be able to track how the Covid-19 epidemic is unfolding in their area with a web application which updates every 24 hours.

It was created by Max Eyre, a PHD student in Epidemiology & Global Health at CHICAS, Lancaster University and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

The web app is based on data from Johns Hopkins CSSE and Public Health England and plots the number of cases across countries as well as UK regions and local authorities.

Max said: “I have also got live UK testing data so users can see how well the UK is managing to ramp up its efforts to perform diagnostic testing. The ability to view UK testing and Local Authority time series data is pretty unique as far as I am aware.”

He said he created the tool as a way of monitoring the transmission dynamics of the epidemic in real-time.

“It is useful for keeping an eye on how the pandemic is progressing and it enables people to see how it is unfolding in their local area.”

He plans to expand the app with new features including : comparisons between countries by deaths per 100,000 population; curves for each UK county; curves for each US state and county; curves for each state and department in Brazil.
